AfterashortperiodasavisitingprofessorattheUniversity ofDortmund,hereturnedtohishomelandBavariaandwasappointedFullProfessor ofStatisticsattheUniversityofRegensburg,attheageof32. Someyearslater,hemovedtothecapitalofBavariaandbecameProfessoratthe DepartmentofStatisticsattheUniversityofMunich. Hisappointmenthadsigni?cant impactontheDepartmentsince,soonafterhisarrival,Ludwigstartedaninitiative toestablishacollaborativeresearchcenteronthe"StatisticalAnalysisofDiscrete Structures. "Afterasuccessfulapplicationforinitialfunding,furtherfundingwas extendedseveraltimes,untiltheresearchcenterreachedthemaximumperiodfor fundingin2006. Duringthecompleteduration,Ludwigservedasaspeakerofthe researchcenterand-tociteoneofthe?nalreferees-"manageditinaneasyand ef?cientwayandcontributedseveralimportantresults. " Duringthelastfortyyears,Ludwig'sworkhashadtremendousimpactontheS- tisticscommunity.
