This work excels through sharp definition and articulation of contents, yet its true significance is to be seen in the fact that here, for the first time, the whole world of structures in building is brought into one comprehensive order under one single criterion, thus providing access to the multiplicity of all different structure systems in full. In order to accomplish this, for communication purposes, all theoretical verbalizations and calculations are practically left out. Instead, as medium of transmission - another feature of this book - the pictorial language is chosen. In a simplified manner the complex behaviour of structure systems is illustrated and the relationship between structure and architectural form is demonstrated. Thus, the designer - architect, engineer or student - acquires knowledge and perspective of formulating structural ideas.
