In her work, Camilla Løw explores the formal characteristics of spaces and physical forms. Her atmospheric installations, which are often reminiscent of the visual language of constructivism and minimalism, detach themselves from the purely physical space, transforming it into a place of socio-psychological resonance. This publication marks the unveiling of Løw’s first exterior installation in Japan, commissioned by the Norwegian embassy in Tokyo, and provides a fascinating insight into her creative process. Models, sketches, and studies reveal the poetic moment of creation―that state in which anything is possible. The book is complemented by Haiku poems by Karl Holmqvist and photos by Carla Åhländer that reflect the playful spirit and sensual depth of Løw’s artistic thought process.

Camilla Løw (b.1976, Oslo, Norway) works through formal specificity, be this a relation to a space or a material body. Often embracing a visual language that recalls Constructivism and Minimalism, Camilla’s atmospheric forms do not just reference space but allow for a redefinition of space within the social psyche. Following her first public commission in 2008 for KORO Public Art Norway, Camilla has been continually sought to imbue shared spaces with her distinct mode of socio-spatial redefinition. Some previous commissions include Broken Thrones (2020, Skulpturstopp, Sparebankstiftelsen), Echo (2017, KORO Public Art Norway), and Tistler (2012, City of Oslo). Karl Holmqvist (b.1964, Västerås, Sweden) lives and works in Berlin. His work often includes writing in artist’s books, installations, video and spoken word performance. Recent one-person exhibitions include Beau Travail, Stockholm, The Brick (former Laxart), Los Angeles, Fridericianum, Kassel, Centre d’Art Contemporaine, Geneva, Power Station, Dallas and Camden Arts Centre, London. He has participated in the Venice Biennial in 2003 and 2011 and Performa, New York in 2005, 2007, 2013 and 2023. Carla Åhlander (b.1966, Lund, Sweden) often works through photographic series, using this medium to provoke inquisitive looking. Carla has received the Artist’s Research Grant from Berlin Senate Department for Culture and has previously been the recipient of artist residences at Centro Tedesco di Studi Veneziani in Venice and Künstlerhaus Lukas, Ahrenshoop, Germany, among others. Recent exhibitions include Holding Places, Belmacz, London, Carla Åhlander & Camilla Low, Belmacz, London, and Geister, SCOTTY e. V., Berlin. Living and working in Berlin, Carla teaches Photography at Bard College Berlin, and at the Berlin University of the Arts.
