The design of digital typefaces is an essential part of the modern media culture. Fonts are not only purveyors of content, but are often a central, identity-creating element in both commercial and artistic production. Innovations in the field of information technology enhance the significance of type design, since constantly changing design requests in on-screen as well as print media generate an inexhaustible demand for original designs. Subtext: Typedesign explores these developments through the designs of more than 50 locally and globally active designers. Each contemporary typeface design presented is either closely or tangentially connected with Austria. Furthermore, renowned authors from various cultural and scientific fields discuss their relationship to type and its design.
