Today World Wide Web is the backbone of our human race. With the ever-increasing dependence on the Internet, the traffic on the World Wide Web has increased at an explosive rate causing a rapid increase in the request rate to popular Web sites. These sites can suffer from severe congestion and sluggishness especially during events of mass popularity.The aim of this book is to review the state of the art in Load Balancing techniques on distributed Web-Server systems. We analyse the efficiency and limitations of the various approaches and their trade off and propose a new architecture or model for the purpose.
