Sinopsis

Kondareddis are one among the 12 PTGs in Andhra Pradesh. They inhabit the hilly and forest tracts of East and West Godavari and Khammam districts of Andhra Pradesh, India. The major criteria in classifying them as PTGs are i). Pre-agricultural stage, ii). Low literacy and iii). Stagnant or declining population. They practice shifting cultivation and depend on forest for their livelihood. They prefer to live in interior and hill top areas, and hence it is difficult to implement educational, health and other development programs. Their cultural practices, particularly during pre and post natal period, and the weather do not contribute to their population growth. Various development programs are implemented by both Central and State governments through Integrated Tribal Development Agencies under Tribal Sub-plan for welfare of Kondareddis. However, the Kondareddy are not showing much interest towards the desired changes due to various socio-cultural and other factors. The book consists of five chapters.

Biografía del autor

Dr. P. Thiripalu hails from a remote village near Talakona-a famous water falls in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. He has obtained M.Sc. (Anthropology) and Ph.D. (Anth) from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, India. He has published good number of articles and presented many papers at national/international seminars/conferences.
