Sinopsis

The book presents a variety of approaches in the fields of spatial, temporal and spatio-temporal database modeling and indexing. Chapter 2 presents spatial database modeling and a selection of approaches in that direction. Also chapter 3 introduces temporal database modeling and later spatio-temporal modeling as a combination of spatial and temporal modeling. Chapter 4 discusses approaches for indexing spatial data. Similarly, chapter 5 adds a time dimension to spatial indexing and presents approaches for spatio-temporal indexing. Chapter 6 presents AIRSTD*, a selected approach for retrieving and indexing spatio-temporal databases. In Chapter 6 we discuss a future view of the famous ¿Google Earth¿ application as a real time applicable example of all theoretical material presented in this book. Finally, a brief overview and summary of the book are presented in chapter 7.

Hatem Halaoui Ph.D. in Computer Science, Graduate Center at the City University of New York. Assistant Professor in Computer Science at Haigazian University, Lebanon Author of more than 15 publications: book chapters, journal and conference papers. Research Interests: Spatial, Temporal, and Spatio-Temporal database modeling and indexing .
