The main aims of the Advances in Databases and Information Systems workshop, held in Moscow, 10-13 September 1996, was to provide a forum for the presentation and in-depth discussion of advanced research directions that will effectively improve the building and use of future information systems, and to allow direct interaction and communication between the reserach communities of both East and West, thereby fostering old and new collaborations. The full papers from the Advances in Databases and Information Systems workshop are available online at: http://ewic.springer.co.uk. This booklet provides the passwords needed to access the web site.
