Introduces electrical engineers and scientists with a background in robotics to real-time robotics and to designing programs applying message passing without violating fundamental robot laws. For readers without a robotics background, introduces existing robot programming languages and programming environments, classifications, and approaches. Applies a hybrid object-oriented environment to various concurrency models that provide different granularities of parallelism to support the design of robot tasks and make their execution more efficient.
