This volume introduces the fundamentals of adsorption heat pumps, beginning with the simplest cycle and building to the most complex. Selection of adsorbents and refrigerants, design of adsorption beds and auxiliary heat exchangers, and applications for different designs are all discussed. The book educates engineering students, engineers, and researchers about an environmentally friendly alternative to vapor compression refrigeration systems promising for many applications. The authors cover thermodynamic cycles, working materials for the cycles, and aspects of designing and modeling adsorption heat pumps.

Dr. Srinivas Garimella is the Hightower Chair in Engineering and Professor in the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and director of the Sustainable Thermal Systems Laboratory. Dr. Garimella received Ph.D. and M. S. degrees in Nuclear Engineering from The Ohio State University. He received a B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (India). Dr. Garimella has mentored over 75 postdoctoral researchers, research engineers and students pursuing their M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, including his two coauthors, with his research resulting in over 300 archival journal and conference publications, two other textbooks, and nine patents. Mr. Boman is a graduate research assistant working with Dr. Garimella at the Sustainable Thermal Systems Laboratory, which he joined as an NSF Graduate Research Fellow in 2014. Mr. Boman received an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. His research has resulted in the publication of over 10 peer-reviewed journal papers.
Alexander W. Raymond is a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Astrophysics at Harvard University. Dr. Raymond studied at the Sustainable Thermal Systems Laboratory at Georgia Tech, where he received an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He later received a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Harvard University.
