Teaching and being a teacher are not the same thing. Teaching is amazing, but being a teacher requires much more than most new teachers realize. Too many teachers are leaving because they are not prepared to meet the demands of today's classroom. Being a teacher is a custom job, it needs to be learned, practiced, reflected upon, and constantly improved; it needs be crafted throughout your career. Navigating your first couple of years without a compass is complicated, difficult, and often, new teachers are left to do this alone. The book covers how to customize classroom management, authentic delivery of instruction, and how to integrate content that is both rigorous and relevant. It also focuses on building 21st century skills and global education. Additionally, the book covers how to separate who you are as a teacher and your life outside the classroom to help prevent burnout and leaving the profession within those first years. This book is an honest look at teaching today and what it means to become a teacher that is prepared to meet the challenges of today's classroom.
