Dear Readers, I hope you like this paperback version of the book., which is also available in Kindle format with Amazon. As noted below, this version does not contain exercises; however, I will soon publish (in October or November 2023) a new version which contains exercises (it will be called Taking the First Steps in Catalan: With Exercises).As the title and subtitle indicate, this book is intended to be a basic introduction for beginners who would like to begin studying Catalan, or at least learn the basics. This is book does not contain exercises, pictures, tourist information or sound files. It does contain information regarding pronunciation, phrases useful in daily life, important vocabulary and basic grammar. This book represents the Catalan language as it is spoken in the Catalonian region of Spain (a standardized Catalan which excludes regional dialectical differences). For those who are interested in learning the Valencian language or comparing the differences between Catalan and Valencian, I have published books with Amazon on those topics. The book for learning Valencian is called "Learning Valencian on the Go" and the other book is called "Catalan and Valencian on the Go".
