Sinopsis

A More Human Future Begins with a New Curriculum

As artificial intelligence changes how we work, learn, and create, what should education prepare us to become?

In The Human Curriculum: Rethinking Education for the Era of AI, Peter Y. Lee makes a timely and hopeful case for placing human development, judgment, and lifelong learning at the center of education. Preparing learners for an AI-shaped world requires more than new technology. It calls for a renewed understanding of what education is for—and which human capabilities matter most.

Drawing on research and real-world examples, Lee explores three connected questions:

  • Education for an AI World. What knowledge, skills, mindsets, and values will help people exercise sound judgment, act with purpose, and continue learning throughout their lives?
  • Education Using AI. How can AI support more personal, effective, and equitable learning while preserving the human relationships and thoughtful guidance that education requires?
  • The Future of Curriculum and Credentials. What should we teach, how should we teach it, and how should we recognize learning as educational pathways and opportunities evolve?

Written for educators, parents, students, policymakers, and anyone concerned about the future of learning, The Human Curriculum offers a framework for thinking beyond an outdated model of schooling. It invites readers to consider an education that helps every learner develop confidence, creativity, and purpose—preparing people for the future of work and for fuller participation in human life.

The future of education is a question of what we want people to become.

Acerca del autor

Peter Y. Lee, Ph.D., is an educator, scientist, and author whose work spans physics, electrical engineering, quantum computing, and education. Trained in physics and electrical engineering, he earned his Ph.D. from Princeton University and began his career at Bell Labs, working in photonics and optical communications. He later taught at the middle-school, high-school, and college levels and became involved in curriculum development, academic program design, and the establishment and accreditation of schools and colleges. He is also a co-author of books on quantum computing and has pursued extensive lifelong study across the humanities, social sciences, education, and the sciences. His interdisciplinary background has shaped a long-standing interest in how people learn, how difficult ideas can be scaffolded, and how education should respond when powerful technologies change the nature of intellectual work. In The Human Curriculum, he brings together perspectives from science, teaching, institutional leadership, and lifelong learning to explore what people should still know, practice, judge, and take responsibility for in an age of increasingly capable AI.
