Approximately one in five dachshunds will experience some level of Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) during their lifetime, and other long-bodied breeds get IVDD too. But IVDD does not have to mean a death sentence. If you know how to manage the condition, your IVDD dog can still have a high quality of life, doing all the doggy things that dogs do.
With humor and kindness, Kristin Leydig Bryant and Dr. Adam Christman walk you through caring for dogs with intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). Topics include:
Honey, Have You Squeezed the Dachshund? shares Kristin's many years of experience in home care as a foster mom for DREAM Dachshund Rescue and Dr. Christman's knowledge as a practicing veterinarian and IVDD dog dad. Their combined perspective and practical strategies will give you confidence in talking with your own veterinarian and taking care of your dog during treatment and recovery.

Kristin has over 14 years of experience caring for IVDD dogs and is the “go-to” coach at DREAM Dachshund Rescue for people who need help caring for their IVDD dog. Kristin realized that a how-to guide for caring for these dogs would help her share her knowledge even further. She reached out to Dr. Adam Christman, a veterinarian with a YouTube channel that frequently showcases IVDD dogs. Together Kristin and Adam created “Honey, Have You Squeezed the Dachshund?” with Kristin supplying practical techniques and Dr. Christman sharing his medical knowledge of IVDD. They have never met but plan to one day! Kristin lives in Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband Craig and her “down” dachshund, Paris. When she is not enjoying home life with her husband and dogs, she works as a consultant specializing in organizational change management. Dr. Christman has practiced veterinary medicine for more than 13 years and is Co-Chief of Staff at Brick Town Veterinary Hospital in Brick, New Jersey. He has one “down” dachshund, two other dachshunds, and a beagle. Together they are his world.
