Sinopsis

While English may have one of the easiest grammars of all the European languages, there are exceptions to the basic rules that can be challenges. A system such as Intish, which is standard English but without these exceptions, might serve to alleviate these challenges, and as an introduction to get learners talking, particularly because, at its core, the system regards communication as being more important than grammatical correctness. The differences between Intish and standard English are outlined, followed by example dialogs to illustrate how effective Intish can be for communication, and also how facilitators might apply it when assisting learners in moving toward the requirements of standard English – if that is the choice. Findings see that Intish is designed to be descriptive, presenting choices, rather than prescriptive, presenting a ‘correct’ manner in which to write and speak, and, essentially, providing a unique model, setting the stage for establishing a standard for international communication.
