The twin crises of economic catastrophe and rapidly accelerating climate disruption are examined in this analysis of how economic policy and climate change must be combated in an integrated way. President Obama’s ambitious environmental agenda, his plans for significant reforms and economic interventions, and his adoption of green Keynesianism are contrasted with Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's pursuit of short-term economic fixes and reluctance to take on the country’s environmental concerns. The case is made that Australia’s approach is no longer defensible or practical, and must be replaced by policies based on the profound insights of John Maynard Keynes as its leaders reinvent Australia as a renewable energy-based economy that will sustain future generations.
