Sinopsis

A highly contagious book virus, a literary society and a Snow Queen-like disappearing author

'She came to realise that under one reality there's always another. And another one under that.'

Only very special people are chosen by children's author Laura White to join 'The Society', an elite group of writers in the small town of Rabbit Back.

Now a tenth member has been selected: Ella, literature teacher and possessor of beautifully curving lips.

But soon Ella discovers that the Society is not what it seems. What is its mysterious ritual, 'The Game'? What explains the strange disappearance that occurs at Laura's winter party, in a whirlwind of snow? Why are the words inside books starting to rearrange themselves? Was there once another tenth member, before her?

Slowly, disturbing secrets that had been buried come to light...

In this chilling, darkly funny novel, the uncanny brushes up against the everyday in the most beguiling and unexpected of ways.

Acerca de los autores

Pasi Ilmari Jääskeläinen is Finland's best kept literary secret. In the early '70s, when he was five, Pasi lived in a block of flats by an old cemetery and believed in vampires. In the early '80s he still had vampire dreams and fell in love with Jeanne Moreau in Truffaut's Jules et Jim. Ten years later Pasi wrote his first short stories.
He won the writing competition for science fiction and fantasy stories four times, and then decided to become a writer. Now he is an author, but he is also a teacher of Finnish language and literature in a secondary school and the father of three sons. He hasn't stopped loving vampires, Jeanne Moreau or classic films. The Rabbit Back Literature Society is his first book to be published in English.

Lola Rogers is a full-time literary translator living in Seattle. Her published translations include works by Sofi Oksanen, Riikka Pulkkinen and Antti Tuomainen. Her translation of Oksanen's novel Purge was chosen as a best book of 2010 by The Sunday Times and several other publications. She has also contributed translations of fiction, non-fiction and poetry to numerous journals and anthologies.
