Sinopsis

Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. During a writing career spanning thirty years, Miles Kington acquired a legion of fans devoted to his particular brand of quirky humour. Here, collected into one volume for the first time, is a selection of his best work. There are passages from his (entirely fictitious) autobiography SOMEONE LIKE ME, extracts from the hilarious Franglais Lieutenant's Woman still the definitive translation of the classics into modern 'Franglais' and many other gems of comic writing. Setting the observational comedy of Kington's articles for Punch and the Independent alongside the descriptive beauty of his travel writing and some previously unpublished material, The Best by Miles is a treasure trove. It is a treat for anyone who has ever delighted in the subtle, skilful and irreverent humour of a unique and much-loved British writer. REVIEWS: 'Ridiculously funny . certainly a genius' - Joanna Lumley 'A unique, quirky wordsmith' - Daily Mail 'Miles Kington, humorist-at-large from the moment he was born' - Spectator 'The man with the irony mask . . . comic genius' - Independent 'Kington's satirical eye revels in inversion . . . he delights in the strangeness of everyday conversation' - Literary Review 'Miles Kington deserves to be given a knighthood, at least, for his services to humour. He is one of those very rare people who can be funny, effortlessly, for twenty-four hours a day' - Richard Ingrams Miles Kington wrote a column a day for more than 30 years. In that time he delighted, amused and gently poked fun at a large proportion of the UK population. This book is a selection of some of his best pieces.
