MiFID - the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive - is one of the most wide ranging and ambitious directives flowing out of the EU's Financial Services Action Plan. Launching in November 2007, it is a key measure designed to further the development of a single European market in financial services. Whether it will be successful in that goal remains to be seen, but it is clear that the implementation of MiFID will have an enormous impact on the way that financial markets operate.MiFID extends the coverage of the current ISD regime and introduces new and more extensive requirements to which firms will have to adapt, in particular in relation to the: organisation and conduct of business of investment firms; operation of regulated markets; new pre- and post-trade transparency requirements for equity markets; creation of a new regime for 'systematic internalisers' of retail order flow in liquid equities; and more extensive transaction reporting requirements. This important new publication from City & Financial will provide readers with a definitive guide to the substantial changes in regulation that MiFID will usher in and includes contributions from the Financial Services Authority and leading industry experts.
