John FitzGerald’s poems, from bright contingency and chance location – a schoolyard in New York, a road in County Cork – retrieve epiphanic moments which now live on with enhanced significance “...so that, even if only for an instant, this much can be clear.” ‘Seeing Clear’, one example, is perfect of its kind, and epitomises this alert, reflective poetry.
