Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Gift inscription otherwise like new. The First tells the story of New Zealand's earliest successful aeroplane flights and the remarkable people behind them. Terry Moyle reconstructs the achievements of brothers Leo and Vivian Walsh, often described as New Zealand's own "Wright brothers", and places their work within the wider world of Edwardian innovation ? bicycles, early motorcars, experimental engineering, and the first attempts at powered flight. Drawing on extensive archival research, Moyle corrects more than a century of assumptions about the 1911 Glenora Park flights and the fate of Manurewa, the aircraft that made history before disappearing from the record. The book also follows the wider Walsh family, including the sisters Veronica and Doreen, and their connections to figures such as Jean Batten, Aunt Daisy, and early women aviators.
