In the past two decades, the scientific study of pain has resulted in the publication of much clinical information relevant to the subject. "Pain: Acute and Chronic" provides a basic overview of the physiology, pathology, clinical manifestations and therapy of pain. The book introduces the types of pain encountered and the pain assessment and pain management services available. Advances in pharmacological formulations, routes of drug administration and the technical aspects of drug delivery systems are discussed, as are the necessity for psychological intervention in dealing with pain and rehabilitation and the role of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions in pain management. This practical book aims to meet the needs of a variety of health-care professionals associated with the management of pain.
