Over the years, the Portugal guide has received attention from a range of experts. Alice Martin, from the BBC's Portuguese Service, brought a journalists's eye to the country as it developed in the wake of EC membership. Lisbon residents, Luis da Costa, Fernanda Valenta and Jorge Bochechas, added their own native's view of all things Portuguese. And a group of English teachers, residents throughout 1990-91 travelled the length and breadth of the country to unearth the best money-saving tips and fill in the few remaining gaps in coverage. This edition includes revised maps, including a keyed plan to the bars and clubs of Lisbon's Bairro Alto nightlife quarter, fully updated travel details, taking account of railway line closures and the privatisation of the national bus network, context pieces on Portuguese music and politics and new, systematical hotel price grades, throughout the guide. The chapter on the Algarve has been completely re-worked.
