The In Practice series has been designed as a means of presenting clearcut and accessible opinion-leader advice and summary facts relevant to everyday clinical practice.
Influenza is currently under the spotlight due to recent epidemics that have caused widespread morbidity and mortality in certain risk groups. The spread of influenza presents a serious and almost annual threat to communities worldwide and can paralyze essential healthcare services. This second edition of Influenza in Practice reflects recent developments in the management and treatment of influenza, including NICE guidelines and information on the latest vaccines and drugs.
With its accessible approach, broken down into easy to read chapters, this book tells the medical practitioner everything they need to know about influenza and the implications of avian flu. Besides reviewing and updating the biological characteristics of the influenza viruses, this key text explains the epidemiological and immune mechanisms that have important roles in, and form the background to, the pathogenesis of influenza infection.
Influenza in Practice is an essential resource for all medical practitioners working in the general community and industrial- and company-based practices. It will also be of great value to junior doctors, nursing staff and individuals connected with the healthcare profession.
