This volume contains a collection of papers concerned with computational aspects of machine translation. Emphasis is placed on practical experiences, including notable research efforts in North America, Europe and the USSR. The problems of oriental language translation are examined in depth, including the translation of English into Chinese on a microcomputer. The work also explores theoretical issues, and provides insights into "meta-tool" - the tools used in crafting machine translation systems. Human problems are then examined, with a discussion of the role of the human translator in the age of machine translation.
