Críticas

Children love pop-ups, and paper engineer Mansfield and illustrator Lohlein have done a grand job with this one. The story is minimal but pleasingly repetitive as each fishy character gets eaten up by a bigger one. This could be a useful introduction to the concept of the food chain, though possibly not for the over-sensitive - that shark's teeth are awfully big! The strength of the book though is, well - its strength. Many pop-ups are fiddly and flimsy and soon fall to pieces, but this one seems sturdy enough to survive multiple readings. * Anabel's Children's Literature Blog * There are only four lines to recite in this fishy offering from Templar - but that's because this isn't really a reading book, as such. As is so often the case from this publisher, it is very much a tactile, interactive title - a pop-up experience of the highest quality, taking the idea of the food chain and presenting it with originality and style. There's no need to worry about over-eager little fingers deconstructing the 3D elements, as the construction is impressively sturdy; and youngsters will love turning the pages to see the wiggly worm being snapped up by a fish, who is then swallowed by a bigger version of himself, and so on. There's the possibility of an interesting circle time discussion to be had, too - do we feel sorry for the creatures as they are eaten? Is 'being bigger' justification enough for any kind of behaviour? * Teach Nursery *

Reseña del editor

Andy Mansfield's innovative die-cut pages and pop-ups tell an often surprising, always hilarious story of an underwater food chain. One little sea worm is wriggling around, about to become FISH FOOD! But what about the little fish who swallows him? Or the bigger fish that swallows the little one? Each page turn reveals a more and more outlandish story until - SNAP! A shark grabs a little breakfast snack.
