Kate Farrant is chairperson of The Frampton Trust, a medical charity. During the night in the basement flat of her gambling club, Kate is overcome by a severe gastro-intestinal disorder and rings for an ambulance. When she later dies in hospital, it's discovered that she has been poisoned. Several people have reason to fear and hate her, and the investigation leads from the gambling club and those who'd worked at The Frampton Trust to the school where she and her psychopathic brother were pupils ten years earlier...
