The late Paul Frere - engineer, writer and former top racing driver - drove virtually every Porsche 911 variant and was regarded by Porsche almost as part of the family. Tony Dron is thought to have driven more varieties of Porsche 911 than any other journalist - and has driven at least 1,000 Porsche cars in all. He remains a high-profile motoring writer, with a monthly column in Octane.
