From the 1920s onwards, a slow migration of musicians began from the Delta region of the southern United States in a northerly direction. This was mainly due to economic reasons, as the cotton industry was depressed and workers from the cottonfieldswent in search of other work. While blues in the Delta was predominately acoustic, the blues music of Chicago went in a different direction and evolved into electric blues with larger band formats. The scene has continued to grow and new artists emerge year by year, inspired by the early migrants. This album rounds up the scene in Chicago, with tracks from the early pioneers and those fresh on the circuit.
