The purpose of this text is to impart a basic understanding, both physical and mathematical, of the fundamentals of the theory of vibration and its applications including the analysis of vibration of mechanical or structural systems. Logically organized and easy to use, this text guides the reader through all aspects of vibration analysis. Includes reviews of analytical dynamics, the basic single, two and multidegree of freedom systems using the energy and matrix methods, Lagrange's equation, natural frequencies and mode shapes, response by direct integration techniques and vibration control. Each chapter begins with a brief introduction to the theory being covered followed by numerous solved and practice problems illustrating how the theory is used for the analysis of vibrating systems. Key features include: presentation in simple terms and solution procedures explained in detail through worked examples; abundant examples and exercise problems; problems at the end of each chapter; chapters on vibration control and finite element method; illustrative examples; and programming examples using MATLAB software.
