Sinopsis

First Steps in Irish provides a clear step by step introduction to the Irish language. 

Whether learning Irish at school, at home, or online class, this is an ideal first book. It provides a systematic build-up of vocabulary and grammar in a tried and tested format. Grammatical structure is built up from simple words and phrases to establish a solid foundation of verbs and sentence structures. 

There are 28 lessons (ceacht) – each comprising two pages, with exercises for each section to help consolidate and assist with comprehension. The answers to these exercises are in this new edition at the rear of the book.

The regular and irregular verb forms with conjugations of each for various tenses are used consistently throughout the book. There is also an English-Gaeilge and Gaeilge-English vocabulary summary at the end.

First Steps in Irish is now complemented with audio files of the text to enable you to pick up the sound and pronunciation of words and phrases, and ultimately to assist in Irish conversation – both listening and speaking. Although it is a small paperback, it provides a fantastic foundation for learning the language to the next stage.
