Start your IoT Prototyping with Arduino About This Book * Leveraging the power of MQTT to build exciting IoT projects * Use MQTT with different prototyping technologies such as laser cutting, 3D printing, and PCB production * Practical use cases towards learning this multi-purpose lightweight protocol Who This Book Is For This book is for IoT developers or any stakeholders working with IoT ecosystem and wants to gain in-depth understanding of MQTT protocols. Basic knowledge of IoT will be an added advantage. What You Will Learn * Know what MQTT is and how to use it with Arduino * Learn how to make their devices talk to each other and the web * Learn how to make a website interact with their prototype * Know how to to present their prototypes well * Learn how to use MQTT brokers like Shiftr.io and where to look if they want to use AWS-IOT In Detail MQTT is a lightweight messaging protocol for smart devices and sensors which can be used to build exciting, highly scalable IoT projects. This book will initially start with a quick introduction to the concept of Internet of Things and MQTT and explain how the latter can help you to build your own prototype. Next, you will understand the basic architecture of an IoT prototype, how microcontrollers communicate as well as learn the different messaging protocols and techniques. The next set of chapters will help you to practically use all the concepts learned from the previous section. This section will help you in building three projects from start to finish and those chapters will be preceded by a preparation part which will help you to have all the necessary tools installed and working before moving onto the hands-on section. Going forward, you will learn how to professionally present your own prototype. You will also understand how to use rapid prototyping technologies such as laser cutting, 3D printing and PCB production, along with some third party web-service providers. Towards the end, you will learn all the best practices when using MQTT for communication and advanced patterns. By the end of this book, you will have hands-on experience in using this lightweight protocol for IoT ecosystem.
Tim Pulver is a Berlin based freelance interaction designer and developer. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Interaction Design from University of Applied Sciences Potdam with a focus on physical interaction design-building devices with microcontrollers, sensors and actuators-which solve real world problems In recent years he worked on cables, an innovative visual programming language running in the browser, which makes it possible to create interactive audio-visual and physical prototypes without writing any code. He also worked on physical interaction design projects for clients, e.g. medical prototypes, a smart compass, and an ambient light used as a server-intrusion system He also gave various workshops in universities and companies in Germany and Sweden about creative coding, physical prototyping, and the possibilities of modern prototyping. For most of his students it was the first contact to prototyping with hardware or even programming in general. Because of this he got a good understanding of the pain-points of working with new technologies as a non-technical person and the reward of making interactive physical projects come to life. Tim worked together with Packt Publishing before by doing the technical review for Processing 2: Creative Coding Hotshot, as well as Mastering openFrameworks: Creative Coding Demystified.
