Sinopsis

Superconductors offer high throughput with low electric losses and have the potential to transform the electric power grid. Transmission networks incorporating cables of this type could, for example, deliver more power and enable substantial energy savings. Superconductors in the Power Grid: Materials and Applications provides an overview of superconductors and their applications in power grids. Sections address the design and engineering of cable systems and fault current limiters and other emerging applications for superconductors in the power grid, as well as case studies of industrial applications of superconductors in the power grid.

De la contraportada

Superconductors offer high power density throughput with low electric losses and have the potential to transform the electric power grid of the twenty-first century. Transmission networks incorporating superconducting cables of this type could, for example, deliver more power and enable substantial energy savings. This book provides an overview of superconductors and their applications in power grids.

The text for this book is split in to three main sections. Part One covers the fundamentals of superconductivity, its potential impact on the electric power grid and looks at the most prominent superconducting materials used thus far in power applications. Part Two looks at the technology of high temperature superconducting cables. Finally, Part Three examines other applications for high temperature superconducting technologies and their uses in the real world.

Superconductors in the Power Grid

provides a standard reference work for R&D professionals and managers in energy technology companies and academic/government employed researchers with an interest in electricity transmissions and/or superconductivity.

Dr Christopher M. Rey, was formerly a Distinguished Scientist at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where his primary work focused on high temperature superconductors for electric power applications and he also served as the Central Solenoid Systems Manager for the US International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) Project Office. He now is the President of Energy to Power Solutions (E2P), a small company focused on superconducting enabled products and solutions.
