His research interests include employment, the informal economy, gender and economic policy, and industrial development. He is a part-time member of the Competition Tribunal and a commissioner on the South African Employment Conditions Commission

Jonathan Klaaren is Professor and former Dean of the School of Law at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

Simon Roberts is a professor of economics and executive director of the Centre for Competition, Regulation and Economic Development (CCRED) at the University of Johannesburg. He held the position of chief economist and manager of the Research and Policy Division at the Competition Commission of South Africa from 2006 to 2012 and continues to consult widely for organisations across Africa

She served as an economist at the Competition Commission of South Africa and has consulted widely to regulators, government and private companies in South Africa and the region
