Starting school is a big adventure, especially when it’s happening en français!
Join Elliott as he experiences his first week of French school in How to Have a Bonne Rentrée: Elliott Goes to School en français, a fun, rhyming story created to help young children feel more prepared and confident about starting school in French.
As Elliott explores his new classroom, meets his teacher and classmates, and navigates the emotions of starting school, young readers are introduced to useful French words and phrases they may actually hear and use throughout their school day.
Perfect for children preparing for French school or French immersion, this bilingual story helps families:
• Learn useful French school and classroom vocabulary
• Talk about the emotions that can come with starting school
• Practise French together, even when parents don’t speak French
• Build confidence before that exciting first day
• Make French learning feel fun and connected to everyday life
French words are highlighted throughout the story, while direct English-French translations are clearly identified to make learning approachable for the whole family.
And the learning doesn’t stop when the story ends! QR codes inside the book give families access to recordings of songs featured throughout the story, plus a recorded read-aloud for additional French pronunciation support.

Amy Warr is a Canadian French educator, entrepreneur, and maman of three bilingual boys. She is the founder of 123 Petits Pas Inc., where she helps families introduce and practise French at home through engaging French programming for parents and children. A former French immersion student herself, Amy is passionate about helping parents feel confident supporting their children's French learning, even when French is not their first language. She is the co-author of How to Make Un Ami and How to Have a Bonne Rentrée: Elliott Goes to School en français.
Kristy Maan is a Canadian author, mother of four, and grandmother of six. She has always loved spending time with children and helping foster a love of reading from an early age. Together with her daughter, Amy Warr, Kristy co-authored How to Make Un Ami and How to Have a Bonne Rentrée: Elliott Goes to School en français. She hopes their stories help families enjoy reading together while making French learning feel fun, approachable, and part of everyday family life.
