“This volume offers practical advice for women looking to remain authentic in settings that often leave them feeling like outsiders. A well-reasoned strategy for women's success in the workplace.” —Kirkus Reviews
How women can speak up and stand out in a business world built for men.
A Top Ten performer at a previous financial advisory services firm, Nora Castro was invited to meet with the senior executive team at her new company. In a boardroom where Castro was the only female in attendance, the president asked for big ideas to save the firm from their shrinking footprint in the industry. Castro’s hand shot up. “I have the answer!” When she was ignored, she responded in a loud voice, “What percentage of executives in our firm are women?” Without acknowledging her, the president called an end to the meeting and the men walked out, leaving Castro sitting alone.
This is the story of how one woman fought her way to the top in a cutthroat industry built and run by men. Through vivid career anecdotes and a little tough love, Castro shows women everywhere—regardless of industry—how to follow her up the ladder and open the door to their own success.
Open Your Own Doors is chock-full of actionable steps for strategically building your career by leveraging a feminine superpower: nurturing relationships. A motivating narrative from a formidable woman, this guide is essential for learning how to speak up and stand out.

Nora Castro, a financial advisor and managing director at Castro & Associates, a financial advisory practice in Austin, Texas, has been the recipient of Forbes's Top Women Wealth Advisors award every year since the award's inception in 2018. Castro received a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Southern California and entered the financial services world at eighteen, joining a work-study program during college at a financial services firm. It was there Castro discovered a love for the industry and became that firm's youngest registered representative. Throughout her career, as a woman in a male-dominated industry, she has been ignored and belittled, yet she found a way to overcome the hurdles and open the barred doors she encountered along the way. As she will tell you, "The battles I fought and indignities I endured have left deep and everlasting scars. Hopefully, this book will make other women's career journeys less challenging."Her career has been profiled in Forbes, and she speaks regularly at industry events for women's empowerment and at various charities, such as Texas Women for the Arts. Open Your Own Doors is her first book. She lives in Austin, Texas, with her husband, Robby.
