Barnabus the Big Brown Dog feels sad. He misses his best friend Quint the Bookmobile. He feels lonely and scared in the big red shop without his friend. He wants to find Quint, but he is afraid to leave the shop, because he worries that he will scare the townspeople who visit the bookmobile.

When Ms. Morris visits the shop and finds out how sad Barnabus is, she offers to take him along as she and Quint the Bookmobile visit kids and distribute books. Once Barnabus is onboard, some strange things happen - Quint seems to come to life, children who are usually afraid of dogs are happy to pet him, and Ms. Morris is certain she sees Quint wink!
