The March 2020 issue (Volume 48, No. 1) of Structure, Function, Integration: Journal of the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute® focuses on the theme of hands and arms within the work of Rolfing® Structural Integration (SI). Modern Rolfing SI benchmarks the importance of hands and arms for structural and movement well-being, which partly reflects modern innovation to compensate for the scarcity of information regarding the hands and arms in the original Rolfing Ten Series, and partly reflects increased issues clients experience with hands and arms as our society becomes more reliant on technology. Articles offer individual nuance regarding addressing arm and hand manipulation within the context of the Rolfing ‘Recipe’, stretches for self-care and for use with clients, and both historical and modern perspectives. Outside of our hands and arms theme, we also profile a blind Rolfer™ who uses his sense of touch to evaluate client structure as well as to do his Rolfing SI work. Our regular columns feature a research article on the biochemistry of active contractile properties within fascia, an embryological discussion of the extremities, a discussion of peripheral stability, and our faculty roundtable on our hands and arms theme.
