In this lesson, Mama Relly is teaching her descendants about the Adinkra symbol Sankofa. The children learn how West African captives brought Sankofa symbols to New York City during slavery. The ancestors first smelted and shaped wrought iron into the heart-shaped designs meaning, “Go Back and Fetch It” leaving evidence of their existence throughout the world.
