At the Rising of the Earth is a stand alone novel of fictional science, which just happens to take the story of The Stars Beneath Our Feet, a little further.Jack Culpepper is a journalist, a rare trade at the start of the twenty fourth century. His patch is the Earth, and as foreign correspondent, he has covered most of the places where politics works its way down to street level. In his early forties, he considers himself now too old to start his career again off-planet, until that is, he gets an invitation from an unexpected source to cover a serial killer story on Moon Base 2. The story, he is warned, is not the usual kind, like the ones he has reported twenty times before; it has under currents of global politics, secret services settling scores, and turbulent oceans of money, with the possibility of violent death thrown in – how could he possibly turn it down? Everybody has a piece of Jack, he’s used to that, but who owns the majority share?
