Alexander is a young Muscovy duck who falls in love with a young Pilgrim goose. He follows her everywhere, sure that she is the loveliest bird he has ever seen. Eventually, a male Pilgrim goose becomes very jealous and chases Alexander away from the barnyard. That night, a fierce tornado hits the barnyard. Ruth Calkins was born in Brooklyn New York in 1927. A child during the great depression, she graduated from Douglas College (Rutgers University) in 1948 with a BA in History. She's married and had 5 children. Her husband work in US Aid and the family lived in and visited many different countries. Her published children's books are Max Goes to Africa and Max Visits Santa Claus. At 91, she lives in Newport, Washington with her Dachshund Max.
