Sinopsis

We would like to analyze the impact of the liberalisation policies on the on the development of the small scale enterprises. Specifically we want to examine whether the withdrawal of benefits from the small scale sector since liberalisation (New Industrial Policy) have any significant impact on their performance – particularly with respect to their output and employment. Since the main beneficiaries were the registered firms – as only they received the tax subsidies and credit/input/marketing support – we propose to examine how the registered sector was affected due to the withdrawal of benefits. Along with this we also propose to analyze the impact of liberalisation on the unregistered /informal sector which was not directly affected by the withdrawal of benefits – except perhaps product reservation to some extent. In addition to the direct impact of liberalisation on the unregistered sector – it may also be taken as a ‘control group’ in a study of the impact of policies (or their withdrawal) on the principal beneficiaries of small scale policies – the registered enterprises.
