"Daniel Feldman had once been a doctor. He made the mistake of saving a friend's life in violation of the Medical Lobby rules. Now, he's a pariah, shunned by all, forbidden to touch another patient. But things are more loose on Mars. There Doc Feldman is welcomed by the colonists, even as he's hunted by the authorities. But, when he discovers a Martian plague may soon wipe out humanity on two planets, Feldman finds himself a pivotal figure. War erupts. Earth is poised to wipe out the Mars colony utterly. A cure to the plague is the price of peace, and only Feldman can find it."

Lester del Rey (1915-1993) was an American science fiction writer, editor, critic, and anthologist whose career helped shape the development and popular reach of twentieth-century speculative fiction. Born Leonard Knapp, he became known professionally as Lester del Rey and published widely in the magazines that defined the Golden Age and post-Golden Age science fiction marketplace. His fiction often combined brisk storytelling with clear speculative premises, making his work accessible to younger readers while still engaging major science-fiction themes: technological change, space travel, future societies, scientific responsibility, and the individual under pressure from large systems.Del Rey was also a major editorial figure. With Judy-Lynn del Rey, he helped build Del Rey Books into one of the most recognisable science fiction and fantasy imprints in American publishing. His influence therefore extended beyond his own stories and novels into the careers of many other writers and the commercial development of modern genre publishing. Works such as Badge of Infamy, The Sky Is Falling, Police Your Planet, and Marooned on Mars show his gift for compact, idea-driven adventure and his continuing place in the history of classic American science fiction.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Lester del Rey's Badge of Infamy is a fast-moving classic of medical science fiction, Martian danger, and institutional control. Dr. Daniel Feldman has been ruined by the medical authorities that dominate his world, branded with the mark of disgrace that makes him an outcast among his own people. Forced to survive outside the protection of the system, he travels to Mars, where the rules of Earth still reach across space-and where a deadly crisis may require exactly the skills he has been forbidden to use.On Mars, Feldman finds a society caught between bureaucracy, fear, and disaster. A plague threatens the colony, official power moves too slowly, and the man treated as infamous may be the only one willing to act. Del Rey builds the story around a strong science-fiction premise: what happens when law, professional monopoly, and public health collide at the edge of human settlement. The result is an energetic mid-century adventure about exile, courage, medicine, reputation, and the cost of doing what must be done.A compact and readable work from one of the important figures of American science fiction, Badge of Infamy offers the pleasures of Golden Age and post-Golden Age SF: Mars, plague, social engineering, medical ethics, action, and rebellion against a rigid future order. It remains a strong choice for readers interested in classic science fiction, dystopian systems, planetary adventure, and stories of one capable outsider forced to confront a civilization's failures.
