The International Classification of Diseases (ICD), developed and maintained by the World Health Organization, is now in its 10th version. The clinical modification (CM) is a US modification that facilitates using the codes for the diseases to identify diseases and causes of death in medical records, medical care review, and ambulatory and other medical care programs as well as for basic health statistics. It begins with a 340-page index to diseases and injuries, keyed to the over 600-page tabular list, which is by biological system. Among the categories are diseases of the nervous system; diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue; pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperum; and injury, poisoning, and certain other consequences of external cause. ICD-10 has been expanded to six and seven characters, and designed to add new diseases easily. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Prepare for the future of diagnostic coding with the latest and most comprehensive version of the official government draft of the ICD-10-CM code set. This codebook presents the complete code set-a total of 21 chapters-within a tabular list of diseases and injuries. ICD-10-CM conventions and official guidelines educate you on appropriate and consistent coding. Color coding alerts you to fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh character requirements as well as to instructional notes and deactivated codes. Indexes to diseases and injuries and to external causes make navigation of the code set quicker. A table of drugs and chemicals provides an easy-to-read list of substances and the codes they relate to when it comes to poisoning, adverse effects, and underdosing. A neoplasm table aids in the accurate coding of neoplasms by anatomical site and nature or the neoplasm.
