It's easy to see which are the real life ones: like the Velveteen Rabbit they're more than a bit worn and clearly well loved. A few have sprung bindings; others are over-stuffed with memorabilia-notes, ticket stubs, boarding passes. and postcards from friends. Among these full and lively journals stand a few almost-empty ones. In spite of their - bright and beautiful covers, they didn't work out, and I abandoned them quickly. This book is about what you can do to be sure that all of your journals are real life journals that can enrich and deepen the very reason you chose to keep a journal in the first place. Years ago one of my sons gave me a little journal wrapped in buttery leather. It fit my hand like a chunky bar of soap. I loved everything about it: the paper that was the color of apricot mousse and thick enough to take watercolor washes as well as crisp pen lines: the wrap-around cover that conconled a tiny envelope and had a tail that could ti.
