Sinopsis
This translation of the second¬ revised and expanded Spanish edition is a comprehensive introduction to the Septuagint, the first translation and interpretation of the Hebrew Bible, and to other Greek versions of the Bible. The volume deals fully with the origins of the Septuagint, including its linguistic and cultural frame, its relation to the Hebrew text and to the Qumran documents, and its transmission and reception by Jews and Christians. It includes the early revisions, Aquila, Symmachus and Theodotion, the Christian recensions and particularly Origen s Hexapla, biblical commentaries and catenae, as well as other issues such as the relation of the Septuagint to Hellenism, to the New Testament and to early Christian literature. It will prove particularly useful to biblical scholars and students of theology, ancient history, philology, and to those interested in the history of Judaism and the origins of Christianity.

Acerca de los autores
Natalio Fernández Marcos, Ph.D. (1970) in Classical Philology, University of Madrid (Complutense), is Research Professor at the Institute of Philology, where he was Director (1988-1992). He has published extensively on the Septuagint and Hellenistic Judaism, including Scribes and Translators: Septuagint and Old Latin in the Books of Kings (Brill, 1994) and El texto antioqueno de la Biblia griega (CSIC 1989-1996).
