In this memoir, Campbell reflects on his experiences working in the field of corrections. The main part of the narrative focuses on his time spent working as a warden in federal prisons during the 1950s, 1960s, and early 1970s. In the final chapter, Campbell outlines the reasons for his opposition to the death penalty. Some of the material in this volume also appeared in an earlier book, titled Serving Time Together, Men and Women in Prison, published by Texas Christian U. Press in 1980.
