In Governor Reagan, Lou Cannon offers-through recent interviews and research drawn from his unique access to the cabinet minutes of Reagan's first years as governor of California-a fresh look at the development of a master politician. Noting the complexities, both personal and political, that Reagan embodies, columnist George F. Will singled out Lou Cannon, "a brilliant reporter who has known and covered Reagan for nearly forty years," as someone who understood. "He has been Reagan's best biographer. And now, drawing upon a wealth of new material, Cannon illuminates Reagan's Sacramento years-his apprenticeship for the presidency. " When considered together, Governor Reagan and President Reagan are essential reading for everyone ever captivated by Reagan and his momentous life.
