An outspoken critic of the U.S., Venezuela's democratically elected president Hugo Chávez is head of one of the world's largest oil-producing countries--and a thorn in the side of the Bush administration. In this accessible text, Venezuelan-American attorney Eva Golinger presents evidence obtained under the Freedom of Information Act that reveals that the U.S. knew in advance about a 2002 plot to overthrow Chávez. Facsimiles of many of these government documents are found in the appendix. The volume is not indexed. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
Eva Golinger is a Venezuelan-American attorney specializing in international human rights and immigration law. In 2004, she obtained top-secret documents from the CIA, the State Department and other government entities, declassified under the Freedom of Information Act, demonstrating the Bush Government's prior knowledge and complicity in the April 2002 coup d'etat against President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela. She has also brought to light more than $20 million given by the U.S. Government to finance anti-Chávez groups in Venezuela.
