D. R. Nguyen spent a lot of time as a youth daydreaming about a world outside of his own, creating stories in his head that grew into short stories and screenplays. After high school he was accepted into the Inner City Filmmakers Program and went on to graduate in Television Film and Media Studies from California State University of Los Angeles. His love for poetry and prose developed in his first year of college when he went to the Da Poetry Lounge in Los Angeles for the first time. There he seen the passion the poets displayed on the stage and the instant love they received from the girls. The only problem was he didn’t write love poems initially. A lot of the work he wrote was dark and about the struggles of life. He found a new outlet to release his creative energy and found a new way to tell stories in a shorter form. He went on to eventually perform at Da Poetry Lounge, The Sunday Jump, The Definitive Soapbox, and other open mics across the country. His poetry and prose book Dark Days Lonely Nights dives into the emotions of isolation and depression. In addition to poetry, D. R. Nguyen won awards for his short film Trapped, and short screenplay Sin. Both are included in his short stories book The Lost Collection, putting together short stories of mystery, drama and suspense. It doesn’t matter if it’s poetry, short stories or film. D. R. Nguyen loves to create and craft stories that touch the human soul.
